Brides head for Barrow wedding planner show

BRIDES-TO-BE were given a helping hand planning their perfect wedding day – thanks to the Evening Mail.

Hundreds of people flocked to the Abbey House Hotel yesterday for the Evening Mail’s Designer Wedding Show.

Visitors were able to organise a photographer, order flowers, arrange balloons, wedding stationery, the cake, hire of bridal cars and menswear.

The afternoon included two bridal fashion shows. Catwalk models showed off dresses from local companies as local wedding singers entertained the audience.

Popular stalls included the wedding cake and photographers stands, all ready to show future Mr and Mrs’ what they can do to make their day extra special.

Bride-to-be Rebecca Lawson, of Strawberry Terrace, Barrow, said: “It’s brilliant, there are loads of exhibits. We’ve only been to the fashion show so far but it’s given us lots of ideas. My fiance loves trying the cake. We’re just going to go and look around the rest and see what they have got. We have only booked the venue and nothing else so we’re just going to get ideas and prices and stuff like that.

“I wouldn’t know where to start otherwise, I wouldn’t know where to go or how to even start looking, so it’s good.”

Elinor McSorley, of Crozier Close, Barrow, said: “I’ve enjoyed it, I thought it’s been really good.

The only thing that’s not been here is a horse and carriage stall. I’m not getting married until next year, as my fiance is at sea, so we’ve already booked quite a lot when he has been home. We know what bridesmaid dresses we want and everything, I just can’t seem to find my perfect dress.”

The Designer Wedding Show is the Evening Mail’s third wedding fair.

Terry Hall, publishing director of CN Group, which owns the Evening Mail, said: “We have over 35 stall holders and we are hoping to get in the region of around 250 people to visit the show. We have been advertising now for a couple of months what is happening today.

“All in all, what I have seen as I walk through is it’s very, very busy.

Mr Hall told of how wedding shows can make planning your big day so much simpler.

He said: “The great thing about holding a wedding event is that everything to do with the sector is under one roof at one time.

“So if you are in a position where you are the bride, the groom or the bride’s mother you can come along and see the specialists in action actually on the day.

“You can see a wonderful fashion show with a great range of dresses for your bride and, when you’re looking probably about 18 months or two years ahead, everything is under one roof – you can make your selection and then in real terms, go back to the specialist and try something on but knowing what you are looking for. Today is a lot about networking to decide what you want to buy, who from and then potentially visit those people, but with something in mind.”
