Home Insurance and Shoes

Advertising feature. Home insurance can financially protect the contents of your wardrobe, including your shoes. Shoes are often expensive and if you have a sizeable collection, the value quickly adds up. Currently a large number of people underinsure their homes so be sure to check that your home insurance provides sufficient cover.
Which home insurance policy you have will affect your levels of cover. If you get a home insurance quote you may see that cheap home insurance is not as inclusive as other good home insurance policies, for example. If your shoe collection has become a significant investment it is worth checking the limit in your schedule of home and house insurance to make sure that you’ll be protected in case of loss or theft.
Not only does the cover offered by different home insurance providers vary, but each home contents insurance policy applies a different limit for different belongings. The limit on a pair of shoes, for example, could be the amount stated for an unspecified personal possession in your home insurance policy document or up to a specified amount – whichever is lower.
Whilst this may sound like more than enough money, bear in mind that your home insurance policy’s limit for personal possessions will probably be included within the limit for contents cover rather than being in addition to it. You could therefore be covered for less money than you might think on your home and contents insurance policy.
Also, as well-made shoes can cost hundreds of pounds their value can add up quickly. Women in particular are often surprised by how much their wardrobe is worth. In fact, research has found that on average women spend £1,000 a year on shoes, clothes and accessories.1 If your personal possessions are stolen or damaged you may find that your insurance limit isn’t able to meet the value of your shoe collection, let alone the rest of your wardrobe.
Despite their cost, good quality shoes are a great investment. They can make an enormous difference to the way that you carry yourself and consequently to the way that you feel. A beautiful pair of high heels can transform a mundane outfit into a chic showstopper, whilst cheap uncomfortable shoes can make a difficult day feel impossible.
If you’re concerned that your home insurance doesn’t provide sufficient protection for your personal belongings then contact your home insurance provider. You may well be able to increase or revise the limits that apply to your home insurance policy.
A certain peace of mind comes with the knowledge that if your favourite fashion items are damaged or stolen you’ll be able to replace them through your home insurance.
