AMBLESIDE United will play in the West Lancashire Football League next season.

The Lake District outfit will be one of two new South Cumbrian clubs – the other being Kendal County – taking a place in the Division Two set-up next season.

A third club – Bolton-based Ladybridge – will be the final new addition.

The league’s AGM voted to accept all three teams. Combined with the re-election of GSK Ulverston Rangers – who finished bottom of the pile last season – this will make eight of the 14 sides in the division Cumbrian-based.

The structure of the league will see 16 sides in the Premier Division and 14 in Division One. AFC Darwen have joined the North West Counties League, while Crosshills have resigned.

The new season will start on August 7, with Ulverston under the guidance of new boss Keiron Winder, son of former manager Tommy. He will be assisted by Martin Waddell.

Winder replaces Neil Park, who has taken over the reins at another Division Two club, Askam United.

Jon Grant will continue as Ulverston’s reserve team manager.

The Furness Premier League also held their AGM recently.

The clubs voted to accept two new clubs, Britannia and Kirkby United reserves, into Division Two.

No-one was relegated from the Premier Division as neither of the top two sides from Division One, SDO and Barrow Island, could fulfil the ground criteria to play in the top-flight.

To keep the leagues with an even number of teams (12-10-10), only Hawcoat Park A were relegated from Division One. Barrow Wanderers reserves and Barrow Athletic were promoted from Division Two.

The new FPL season will start on Saturday August 14, with Division’s One and Two commencing a fortnight later.

After the meeting, Furness Cavaliers midfielder Jordan Dix was presented with a Lancashire FA cap and certificate to mark his achievement of playing for the LFA under-18s side last season.

Holker Old Boys will have three new grounds to visit next season after the North West Counties League permitted AFC Darwen, Runcorn Town and West Didsbury And Chorlton to join Division One.

Old Boys have been drawn away to Norton United in the first round of the League Cup. Meanwhile, they will travel to AFC Blackpool in the Division One Trophy second round after receiving a bye in the first round.

l Dalton United are looking for a joint-manager to work alongside new co-boss Darren Barker in charge of the club’s West Lancs Premier Division side next season.

Dalton are also seeking a new joint-manager for their reserve team.

Contact club chairman Alan Callison on 07872933476 for more details. The closing date for applications is July 16.

l Hawcoat Park, under new player/manager Scott Ellis, have begun pre-season training. Sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday (6.30pm). Old and new players are welcome to attend.
